LEAVE A LEGACY® Summit, Portage, Medina (LAL-SPM) is an unprecedented regional collaborative effort to encourage people from all walks of life to make a bequest or planned gift to their favorite charitable or nonprofit organization. LEAVE A LEGACY works hand in hand with charitable or nonprofit groups including social service and arts organizations, churches, hospitals, educational institutions and other philanthropic groups to encourage this activity.

The LAL-SPM effort serves three counties and is modeled after the LEAVE A LEGACY program that began in Columbus in 1996 and has now spread to many other cities.

Experts predict that, even with the recent fall in the stock market, some $10 trillion in wealth is expected to be transferred over the next several years. Yet, only 8% of American households have arranged to make a planned gift.

It is clear that the need to encourage a greater understanding of the benefits and impact of planned giving is urgent. Many charitable or nonprofit organizations know that without an increase in planned giving over the next several years, many of them will be unable to continue their vital programs and services.
